Once upon a time a marketer burned out…

So she quit her dream job to write a fantasy romance. She didn't know how to write a book, but she'd built startups from nothing. How hard could it be?

How it started

Five years ago, I had a leaning tower of business books on my bedside table. They were all so boring! I was never going to finish those books, and I resented them for it.

Then I discovered fantasy romance.

What happened next

I started reading all kinds of books. Cozy romantasy that felt like warm hugs. Dark fantasy romance filled with trauma and redemption. The more "happily ever afters" I read, the more I realized I wasn't happy with my story.

I wanted to write a book of my own. So I quit my job.

How it's going

I'm reading, I'm writing, and I'm learning how to tell better stories. My newsletter has all the details:

Hi, I'm Hanna

It's me. I'm the burned out marketing exec.

Look, I'm an elder millennial oldest daughter. I try too hard. I want you to like me. I don't have a therapist, when I know I should.

Fantasy books are my therapy. When I pour too much of myself into work, books offer an escape. When my kids scream "mom, mom, mom!" about whatever tiny drama, books are my quiet place.

When I quit my job, I knew I wanted to write my own book. But I was scared. What if people think I failed at my career? What if all the good marketing jobs disappear and I really do fail?

I don't know how the story ends (I'm still writing it). I do know I'm having fun. I'm less burned out, and I'm learning a ton. I share updates in an email every week or two. Would love if you followed along.
